Coconut Grove, FL. Nov 11 2010. Amanda Cancio, 17 and a junior at the Academy of Arts and Minds, volunteered to sing the national anthem and "God Bless America" and also wrote a poem for the American Legion Post 182's Veteran's Day event. "They came to my chorus class one day and asked my teacher who would be interested in singing--so I raised my hand," she said. Her poem was entitled "Listen." Cancio described it: "It's about how kids don't know how the troops feel---I'm a kid, I mean, I don't know anything, you know? But it doesn't mean that I can't listen and understand and feel what they're going through." Photo by Jessica Hodder
